Babies, Toddlers and Little People Home Learning Center is
located in Sunrise, Florida. My name is Jordanna Egan, and I am
originally from Manchester, England. I am the oldest of six children,
as well as a mother of two. I graduated in 2003 with a Bachelors of
Science in Tourism and Hospitality Management from St. Thomas
University. After a few years in the hospitality field and two
beautiful children, I had a change of heart. I then decided to open a
family home day care. I am so glad I did! I may work a lot of hours,
and some very long days, but at the end of the week I am still happy.
These children are my world. I know that all of the children I watch
have a special place in my heart and I hope to be there clapping for
them when they graduate college, as if they were my very own.
Libia Torres is one of my part-time substitutes. She was born in Cuba. She is a mother of two beautiful girls and one handsome boy. She and her husband moved here in 2004 from Sweden to open their restaurant, Johnny's New York Pizza in Ft. Lauderdale. Libia and her family lived in Sweden for 15 years. She speaks Swedish, Spanish and English. She moved here to be close to her family. Since living in Florida she has worked at a private elementary school and a day care center. She loves being around children, and hers are getting older and more independent. She enjoys working with us because she says nothing is more beautiful than a child's smile and how they look up to you when you are reading to them. They especially love when she prepares her signature dish, Swedish meatballs!
Julie-Ann Reid is another one of my part-time substitutes. She was born
in Jamaica, and is the middle child of three children. She is majoring
in Nursing at Broward County Community College. She is also the proud
Aunt of a baby girl. She works every Friday afternoon, and the
children love cuddle time with her. The babies absolutely adore her,
and race over to cuddle with her when she walks in on Friday
afternoons. She is full of smiles, and is very passionate about
children.
Anyone working with your children has completed all required
trainings for certification and safety. This includes Pediatric CPR
and First Aid. In addition, we have been fingerprinted and background
checked. This is mandated by the State of Florida.
The house is inspected by the Fire Marshall every year. He
checks the fire extinguisher to see that it has been serviced. In
addition he inspects to see that all nine smoke detectors are in good
working order. He also checks the inside and outside areas of our
home to be sure that it is clear of any hazards. Each inspection has
met all of the safety requirements for childcare in my home.
*During your childs first week here, they will be trained on our
monthly emergency and evacuation procedures.
All areas have been child proofed. This includes inside play
areas, restroom, kitchen and playground. I also carry Childcare
Insurance covering children in the home.
A staff member from the Childcare Licensing Department of
Florida visits the home unannounced for inspection. They do this many
times throughout the year to ensure that our facility follows city and
state standards and that the files for staff and children are current.
